Gimme Sympathy (demo) - Metric

I was a guest in the kingdom of doom
Making the best of what I never wanted
I have a lot to say when I speak too soon
All your success went straight to my head

All the finest wines to unwind you
Every way I could
I fine wine dined you
I'm sold, there's no romance without finance
I'm so close to something better left unknown

I can feel it in my bones
Gimme Sympathy
After all of this is gone
Who would you rather be?
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?
Oh seriously
You gotta make the place your own
Come on baby play me something
Like She's Come Undone
Come on baby play me something
Like She's Come Undone

All the way around the world to get around it
Meet me at the gates of hell, I'm on the guest list
It's too close to be blackmailed
They're all wasted
I'm so close to something better left unknown

I can feel it in my bones
Gimme Sympathy
After all of this is gone
Who would you rather be?
The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?
Oh seriously
You gotta make mistakes, you're young
Come on baby play me something
Like She's Come Undone
Come on baby play me something
Like She's Come Undone

Didn't know what she was looking for
When she found what she was looking for
It was too late
All she said to me
Was 'Come on baby, play me something-'
'Like She's Come Undone.'
Come on baby play me something
Like She's Come Undone

You wear your halo well
But your halo's at your ankles
At your ankles with your panties
Your panties are a pot of gold
Gold at the end of the rainbow

Be careful how you sing
You mean so much to me
You mean so much to me

Comics In Review: Batwoman in Detective Comics

Detective Comics issues 854 & 855

So rarely does a single issue of a comic book leave me on my knees in awe and wonder that when it happens I have to laugh. In this case, it's happened with two: issues 854 and 855. Of course, I remind myself, this is why I love the medium. Needless to say, the first two issue of Batwoman in Detective Comics have had that effect on me. The reason for that, first and foremost, is the astounding artwork by J.H. Williams III, a man so talented that I actually felt angry at myself for not loving his stuff sooner. The man has worked on Batman before, as fans will know, during Grant Morrison's run on the title; a title that I was reading at the time and somehow managed to miss out on that arc! Silly me. Now when it comes to praising this title and the artist, I'm a little late to the party. The debut of this character from this creative team has been a long time coming, with fans agonizing on message boards over when and where Greg Rucka's Batwoman would strut her stuff. The first issue was released in late June, along with the rest of the books under the Batman: Reborn banner. The second issue, which came out just this past Wednesday, was when I picked up a copy and joined the crowd in their feverish frenzy.

Mission Statement

First and foremost, my intention with this blog is to review numerous facets of pop culture (IE; books, movies, music, comics, television,) in a bi-weekly or monthly round-up. Really though, it depends on how much I've exposed myself to and how much time I can spend trying to compose myself intelligently. It ain't easy. Furthermore, I find that negative reviews are too easy to write, so here I'd like to spend more time on reviewing and analyzing stuff I found enjoyable. Although I am sure now and then I'll come across something atrocious enough to make an exception, for the most part I just want to share and recommend great experiences.

Secondly, this blog should serve as an excellent vehicle to showcase my comic art and short fiction, if I feel anything of mine is worth sharing. Pretty standard for a blog, really, but now it's clear where I'm coming from on this thing. Expectations can be formed, opinions can be shared, and comments can be left. I invite you to do so.

Cheers!
